Taking requests

March 6, 2008

As I’ve sat here pondering what I should write about it occurred to me that I would probably be well-served to ask you which topics you’re most interested in reading about! I’ve created some general categories that I think most of my posts fall into and there are some links to sample posts under each category to serve as references.

Please take a minute or two, check out the linked posts if needed, and leave me a comment with your opinion! (I’ve also put a poll at the top of the right column.)

Everyday tips
Posts about topics like how to make doing laundry easier, why your check engine light is on, and simple ways to protect your identity.

Technical tips
Spend less time managing e-mail, take advantage of online bill pay, online to-do lists, other resources, etc.

Perspective posts
Personal thoughts. For example, how humility, character in old stuff, and small gifts can create a simplified life.

Other
What did I miss? Is there another type of post or topic you’d like to see here? Consider this an open request line.

Let me clarify that I’m not running out of ideas for posts. :) I just want to make sure I’m addressing topics that are of value to you.

I’m excited to hear what you think!

Thanks,

David

It’s been a very hectic three weeks but it should all be at an end now! Preparations for the big pitch at work have been wrapped up (at least as far as I’m concerned) which means things should get back on schedule now with more consistent posting. Thank you for your patience!

I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend with my family with whom I’ve had entirely too little time to see over the past little while. Posts will resume next week with a The Finer Things article featuring a very talented photographer as well as a guest post from an English professor. Please stay tuned!

Unscheduled down time

February 16, 2008

Sorry to everyone for the unexpected down time tonight. A friend of mine was helping me tweak my DNS and other domain-name-related settings in hopes of producing unique URLs for each post. Apparently the servers are taking a while to update everything – longer than expected.

However, I guess if you’re reading this things are back up and running.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

- David

It’s been a few days since my last post and I thought I would give a quick update.

The short version is that I’m slammed at work and probably won’t get another post up until early next week.

The longer version is that I haven’t been getting home from work until after 10:00 for the last couple of days and the rest of this week and (possibly) into next aren’t looking much better. At this point I’m wondering if I’m going to to have a Saturday or not. :) The reason for the crazy hours? A big pitch coming up that’s requiring extra time on top of an already heavy work load. I have to admit there’s definitely a satisfaction that comes from working long and hard on something – it feels good. But I miss, among other things (like, you know, seeing my family) being able to dedicate as much time to LivSimpl.

That being said, this is temporary and I’ll have a real post up early next week.

Please hang in there with me! In the meantime, I’d welcome the opportunity to feature some guest authors! So if you have any tips or ideas you think could work, please send them my way. Shoot me an e-mail at LivSimpl at the gmail or use Google Talk with the same screen name.

Thanks, and wish me luck!

- David

P.S. In the meantime, feel free to check out the Past Posts (I had about a month’s worth of posts published before I launched the site – it’s evolved a bit since then) or browse by Topic in the sidebar.

I’ve been tossing the idea around of starting a LivSimpl Twitter feed. The idea behind it would be to post short thoughts, links to relevant articles, new post notifications and maybe even provide an opportunity for readers to get to know me a bit better and vice-versa. (I’m currently available on IM via GTalk – username LivSimpl.)

On the downside, do we really need one more thing popping up on our desktops throughout the day? Of course, one can always choose not to subscribe…

Please sound off in the comments and vote in the poll in the upper-right corner of the site.

Thanks!

Spike in traffic

December 19, 2007

I just noticed I’ve had a significant jump in traffic today. Not sure why, but I couldn’t be happier about it. So to all of you visiting LivSimpl for the first time, welcome!

The site is all about how to simplify life, become more efficient and enjoy the simple things we all too often overlook. I generally post 3-4 times per week and would love it if you’d add the site to your RSS feeds. You can do so by copying and pasting this link into your RSS reader:

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas for a post please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at LivSimpl at gmail.

Thanks for visiting,

David

According to a recent reader survey, 60% of you thought the post lengths were just about right with about 33% thinking I need to dive into the subject matter a little more. One person felt I rambled. (Dear, I’m sorry. I’ll try and keep it short. And do you still want me to pick up milk on the way home?)

Thanks to all who voted. I’ll try to dive a little deeper into things, but only as the subject permits.

As always, I’m eager for suggestions and tips so feel free to contact me either through the electronic mail (LivSimpl at gmail) or jump on Google Talk and say hi (same account).

Thanks for reading!

Last day to vote!

December 6, 2007

It’s the last day to vote on the LivSimpl poll regarding the length of my posts (see upper-right corner of the site).

And, as always, additional feedback is always welcome. Thanks to Peter for leaving a comment here. Peter, your gold-plated Moleskine notebook is in the mail.

New reader poll

November 30, 2007

I just added a reader poll to the upper-right corner of the site. Please take a second or two to vote!

Or, if you’d care to expound a bit more on the poll (or anything, really) you can leave a comment to this post or send me an e-mail to LivSimpl at the gmail.

Thanks much and have a great Friday.

The poll is closed

November 27, 2007

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll. The question was, “What do you think of the new site?” Overall, the vast majority of voters liked the new look. Thanks! Of course, I’m still open to any and all suggestions about the site, so feel free to e-mail me at LivSimpl at the gmail.
